Screen breaks are an important way to maintain good vision, particularly for office-based workers and students, said Tony Veverka, chief executive at Ultralase.

He advised: "With the increasing use of computers, it's a very good idea to take regular breaks from computer screen work, as the eyes can become dry and irritated."

According to the expert, fresh air is "great" for the eyes, as it helps with the essential natural balances of liquids and the rate of production of tears, and so every person should make sure their lifestyle includes a reasonable amount of time spent outdoors.

Mr Veverka's comments came after his company marked its 20th anniversary of vision correction – a period of time which saw it become the first private company in the UK to offer laser eye surgery.ADNFCR-1853-ID-800435678-ADNFCR
