Pocket-sized device allows iris-scanning technology

The government uses it, financial institutions use it, and you've seen it in the movies. But now, everyone can protect their personal accounts with iris scanning technology.

The Hoyos Group unveiled the first portable iris-scanning device for personal use. It's called Eye-Lock.

According to CNN Money, the device comes in the form of a USB drive. It's about the size of a standard business card and it weighs four ounces.

Once you decide which application you want to eye-lock, you hold the wand-like scanner in front of your eye. Once the device recognizes your eye, you are automatically logged in to your password-protected account without having to enter a password.

It can work on anything from Facebook to Gmail, to your bank account.

So maybe you're wondering: what's wrong with fingerprint security, which is already available?

Security experts says fingerprints don't always cut it. Hoyos claims the iris recognition is much more secure.

The company says a fingerprint has about 18 unique points to identify who it belongs to. Your iris apparently has 2,000 points.

Eye-Lock will cost $99, but there is no set release date, at least not yet.
