Millions of people across the planet are potentially putting their vision at risk by failing to notice signs of eyesight deterioration, it has been claimed.

According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the warning signs of major eye disease can be spotted fairly early on and prevented if people take action, and it is fairly simple to do this.

It explained: "By 2020, 43 million Americans will be at risk for significant vision loss or blindness from age-related eye diseases, such as cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and macular degeneration."

This will represent a 50 per cent increase on the number of people in the country currently suffering from these conditions and so it is important that professionals are consulted to prevent such developments.

Recent eye safety advice was issued by Swinton Commercial, after a report by the firm found that as many as a fifth of British van drivers do not have adequate eyesight to operate their vehicle and are therefore putting other road users, as well as themselves, at risk.
