An online poll by Wyeth Nutrition suggested that parents underestimate the importance of eye health.

“Parents these days live under a blanket. In children an eye examination should occur at birth, at the six week and twelve month checks and vision screening at pre-school,” Prof Martin said.
The study revealed that 59 per cent of mothers were not aware that developing eye undergoes major complex changes in the first six months.
Professor Martin said eye problems are treatable, if diagnosed at an early stage.
“Eye check-ups are not as daunting as a trip to the dentist. They are much more easy-going and painless,” Prof Martin said.
A month-long fund-raising campaign by The Eye Foundation, JulEYE (July 1- July 31), is being organised to promote eye health.
