Glass of Milk a Day Keeps the Vision-Loss away

As per the findings of a new study, it has been found that drinking a glass full of milk regularly can actually reduce the risks of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) to a great extent in women.

It is reported that more than 1,300 women were recruited for the study and were screened for the levels of vitamin D in their bodies.

It was then found that the women who have adequate amount of vitamin D blood levels are at the lowest risk of acquiring AMD with 59% lesser chances.

Surprisingly, the scientists claimed that it is not the exposure to the sunlight that descends the risks but the edibles that contain vitamin D. Following this, food items like milk, fish, fortified margarine, other dairy products and fortified cereals etc were recommended strongly to raise the amount of vitamin D in the body.

In fact, omega 3 fish oils were also suggested by the health experts for the same. AMD is a medical condition that affects elderly, which subsequently results in the vision loss due to the damaged retina.

The disease that is the most common cause of the blindness in later years affects millions of people across the globe every year. In Britainalone, an estimated 200,000 people become victims of this disease and lead the life of agony and ordeal.

The study findings have been published in the medical journal Archives of Ophthalmology.
