Women who eat fish regularly may have a lower risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Harvard researchers analyzed the diets of more than 38,000 women.

Eye health was tracked over a decade, during which time more than 200 women developed AMD. They found women who consumed the greatest amount of one or both omega-3 fatty acids had nearly a 40% lower risk of developing AMD.
Specifically, women who ate the most fish had a 42% lower risk of developing the eye condition. Researchers say the data needs to be confirmed in randomized trials. The study was funded partly by the U.S. National Institutes of Health, and appears online in the "Archives of Ophthalmology."
