The eye care field has new surgeries, new contacts, thinner lenses, contacts you can sleep in, and on and on. There is better technology but the results are still the same. When lenses are put on the eyes, they allow us to see, but they do not improve our eyesight. They rob us of function. Dr. William H. Bates MD, ophthalmologist and pioneer in the visual physical therapy field, asked this question in the early 1900s that led him to do research and discover the cause and cure of eye problems: “Why, if glasses are correct, must they continually be strengthened because the eyes, under their influence, have weakened?”
Dr. Bates discovered that mental strain or tension in the mind interfered with the involuntary focusing muscles of the eye. In the normal eye, whether you look near or far, the eye automatically focuses where you put your attention. This is called eye-mind coordination. We see with our mind first directing our attention. Vision is nine-tenths mental and one-tenth physical. The eyes are tools of the mind. Just as ulcers and heart attacks are caused by prolonged stress (psychosomatic illness), so is the vision affected by stress. These stresses are always accompanied by changes—people moving, changing schools, a divorce, a death, career changes, a difficult relationship. These changes create stress and an element of the unknown, which evokes fear. This fear is usually repressed as a survival mechanism and never dealt with again.
When lenses are put on the eyes, this interferes with the eye-mind coordination. When this function ceases and the muscles no longer respond to the thoughts, “What is that over there?” the eye’s motion or vibratory rate is interfered with.
Normal eyes vibrate at the rate of 60 times per second. Eyes with glaucoma, cataracts, astigmatism, nearsightedness, farsightedness, or any other of the numerous eye problems do not experience this natural state of mobility and vibratory rate. The purpose of the Dr. Bates Method of vision training, which I call “Eye-Robics,” is to normalize the eyes to their natural state of 60 times per second.
We are all made of energy. This energy is blocked through mental strain and tension. Eye-Robics teaches you how to release the mental tension and unblock the energy that is so vital to eye health. You will learn how to release the tension that is interfering with the natural functioning of the muscles and regain healthy eyes.
In addition to the most obvious benefit of better vision, there are other benefits as well. These include: increased mental capacity; improved visualization, memory, and imagination; a more relaxed body; and a general increase in health and well-being. For those who have had laser surgery and are not seeing clearly, this physical therapy can return the eyesight to 20/20 or better.
Eye-Robics techniques are wonderful to know as a preventive for those with normal vision to insure against eye strain and tension. College students, pilots, policemen, firemen, people who work with computers, and those who use their eyes continually could benefit greatly. If a person experiencing eye strain would practice Eye-Robics techniques at the onset of a vision problem, he or she could prevent the use of glasses entirely.
In her over 38 years of experience as a vision trainer, I have worked with all ages and all eye problems, from minor to severe. Eye-Robics works with all eye problems: nearsightedness; farsightedness; astigmatism; hyperopia; amblyopia; nystagmus; macular degeneration; glaucoma; strabismus (lazy eye); cataract; ptosis (drooping eyelid); bell’s palsy; fibromyalgia; keratoconus (conical cornea); eye fatigue; headaches; dry eyes; light sensitivity; and computer eye strain. Eye-Robics will assist you to clarity and normal, healthy eyes free of symptoms of disease. The gift of sight is truly wonderful—learn how you can preserve yours for a lifetime.
